In what area are there Sewer and Drain repairs? Will there be a detour?

CONSTRUCTION DETOUR

NOTIFICATION

The City of Fitchburg’s Department of Public Works – Wastewater Division is beginning the construction of a sewer and drain separation project in the area near the western end of Main Street. Please click the link to see Project Area Map. The purpose of the project is to prevent stormwater runoff from entering the sanitary sewer system, which causes raw sewerage to overflow to the Nashua River during rain events. This project is mandated by the City’s Federal Court settlement with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The City of Fitchburg has acquired the services of J.A. Polito & Sons, Inc. to make repairs to the sewers and drains in your area. As part of the project, sewer and drain repairs will be made on Main Street, between the Upper Common near Caldwell Place and the Main Street/River Street roundabout. As a result, Main Street between the Upper Common near Caldwell Place and the Main Street/River Street roundabout will be closed to vehicular access starting on July 24, 2023 through November 15, 2023.

During this time, residents are being asked to plan accordingly and seek an alternate route. Eastbound truck routes will be redirected from River Street, to Kimball Street, to Rollstone Street and to Main Street. Westbound truck routes will be redirected from Summer Street, to Fifth Street, to Water Street, to Laurel Street and to Kimball Street. Local traffic will be rerouted to Rollstone Street and Kimball Streets. All local traffic to follow detour signage. Please click the link to see the  Local Traffic Detour Map and Truck Traffic Detour Map

During construction, Weston & Sampson will have a resident engineer on site inspecting the construction project. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Weston & Sampson at (978) 548-4808 or the City’s Wastewater Division at (978) 829-1930. Please leave a message including your name, address, and telephone number and someone will get back to you promptly. The Department of Public Works – Wastewater Division thanks you for your cooperation and apologizes in advance for any inconvenience.
